Title: Rickenbacker 4001 offer
Post by: mr scarecrow on January 18, 2009, 12:04:21 AM
Hi there. This forum was recommended to me by a friend.

Someone is trying to sell me a Rickenbacker 4001 maple glow for 1300 Eur (= approx. 1,725 USD).

These are the specs. the owner gave me:

- bass has been repaired and adjusted recently for 470 Eur (= approx. 624 USD).
- no hardcase included
- tuners are from '62, so the bass is probably the same age
- 1 stereo output, no mono
- refinished, a couple of years ago
- trussrod's been replaced
- there's been added an extra "plate" to the neck, to make it more firm (i have no clue what's meant by this)

these are the pictures he sent me:

What do y'all think about this one? Would it be a good deal if i buy it?
thanks in advance!

That bass is NOT a Rickenbacker 4001.
It is a fake. Don't buy it!

What makes you say that it is a fake?

This bass is a Rickenbacker copy. You can tell by the fretboard, inlays, jackplate, pickguard, painted walnut stripe (not visible anymore on your photos). Here are some photos showing another attempt to "make" a Rickenbacker.
