Hard to chose, but let there be - John Illsley. Not sure if he played a Ric, though... ???

The only reason I picked up a bass was because of McCartney.  So I guess that answers that question.

Paul McCartney - Though I have to admit that both John Entwhistle and Geddy Lee are right up there.

OK, so we have Paul. I also very much dig Mr. Squier and Les Claypool, Mike Inez, Chris Ballew and the guy from JD Blackfoot's band, but I've spent the last two days trying to perfect "Revelations" off Iron Maiden's Piece of mind CD and Damn, Steve Harris is unfreakinbelievable. He's playing all these galloping, melodic bass lines, using his fingers. Most of you are probably not fans of 80s medal, but listen to this album, Steve Harris is a monster.
