General / Emails from this Forum
« on: January 15, 2010, 08:44:07 AM »
I am sorry, but someone has managed to send emails with a story about some guitar player (George, I think his name was).

These did NOT come from me, Björn Eriksson

I don't know exactly what happened but I'll take a look to see if I can see what happened.

Every day I get attempts to register new member from various spam bots. These will of course be rejected but I always have to check the email address and nickname to figure out if it's a real person behind the registration. This is not very good.
I don't think I have rejected any "real" members but who knows... ???

I will do my best to solve this problem. Please leave as much information about yourself when registering!

I'm OK. Just been on a vacation. It is summer and it's much nicer to be outside than in front of a computer screen. OK, it's possible to have a computer anywhere nowadays but there are many other things to do in the sunny weather.
I spend very much time, almost all the time actually, with our new dog "Tyson". No, it's not a Boxer, it's a Boarder Collie and he is just beautiful. Thanks to him I get a lot of nice walks in the forrest and also some other exercise.

I hope all is well with you all!

General / Forum login problem
« on: March 16, 2009, 10:08:41 PM »
I have been told that there is a problem with the login function in this Forum. This was not known to me until a few hours ago. For the moment I have no further details about what's exactly happening. I have not encountered any difficulties with this myself so I hope it is a temporaily fault that will disappear.

Please use this topic to add your own experiences of this forum, not the content itself but about the functionality and technical issues. This must be forwarded to the software developers.

The Forum was updated recently to the latest version ( not the BETA, but the latest stable release).

Take care

Bass & Guitar Strings / Re: Ric Bass Strings?
« on: March 11, 2009, 07:07:51 AM »
I found this old reply from John Hall regarding strings to the 4001 bass, I think it answers your question.

" -The string tension of a round wound string, especially a nearly pure iron string like those in the Roto Sound class, is almost 100 lbs. greater than a typical flat wound string.
The 4001 neck was designed in 1956 for the only type of strings available then . . . flat wound . . . and since the design favored a slim neck, the neck strength was right on the edge of the envelope. Round wound strings took many of these instruments beyond their rated capability for string tension, resulting in various problems.
But of course there are many types of strings, not to mention that every piece of wood is different, so plenty of 4001's have been used with round wound strings for decades with no ill effect. The best advice on these older basses is to use the light tension string you can stand.
The 4003 has a completely different truss rod design and can handle any type of string you prefer. Fretwire has nothing to do with any of this, as we've always used the hardest alloy available. But it is true that a round wound string will tend to wear down any bass's frets faster."

XITS / XITS (exits) amplifiers
« on: February 05, 2009, 04:12:09 PM »

Exits, or XITS as the case may be, are in the simplest of terms the acting out of ones feelings instead of putting them into words.  This is what XITS is all about.  Engaging the musician with their instrument and connecting the mind body and soul like never before.  The design is straightforward and honest.  The roadblocks that minimize ones expressive nature have been removed.  Its now time to discover your true creative potential with the electric guitar.

XITS is the entry point of a great adventure.  One that I hope brings much discovery and joy!  XITS Tube Amplifiers faithfully pay respect to the history of the great tone generators of the past while looking boldly forward.  They are familiar yet new.  Modern and beautiful.  Highly responsive and soulful. In a word, XITS is like nothing else.  I hope you enjoy the adventure!

"I’m convinced that Koski’s meticulous attention to both visual and sonic detail puts this amp in a class all by itself. As a total package—a seamless convergence of technical innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic temperament—this amp is just astonishing."

Rickenbacker Bass Models / Re: Rickenbacker 4001 offer

This bass is a Rickenbacker copy. You can tell by the fretboard, inlays, jackplate, pickguard, painted walnut stripe (not visible anymore on your photos). Here are some photos showing another attempt to "make" a Rickenbacker.

That bass is NOT a Rickenbacker 4001.
It is a fake. Don't buy it!

Welcome to the Forum, Buchrob. You seem to have found the origin of the sound. Very interesting. Have you used any other tube amps with your guitars?

Very fine photos of a beautiful instrument! This guitar sounds good, too, and I really like it. The design looks slightly familiar in a backward way.
There are two different types of control knobs on the pictures. Which one do you use?
