I've been busy with a new vintage gear forum  and two new bands and haven't been by in awhile.  The place looks great though and I'm glad to see everyone.  :)

Fender / Re: The best Fender combo amp?
« on: August 16, 2009, 05:07:46 PM »

I shipped this amp off to Don Butler     for a cap job and general check up.  Then I replaced the grill cloth got a retro handle and lower back panel and put a vintage 30 in it.  This amp is now by far the best Fender combo ever produced.  ;D

I can't stress how much Don Butler is the man your tube amp has been waiting for.  I still haven't gotten the black shoe polish off the thing though.

Either JH hasn't seen it or it has already been filed against.

I like it a lot. My wife found it, with a Squier P bass for $400 a few years ago.  :o

I would like to try out one of the new BR 1200's though.

Here is my 61' Brown Deluxe. It was painted black with shoe polish, which is proving a little difficult to remove and eventually I will remove the Utah and put a blue alnico in it, but it is a great amp and by far my favorite Fender combo. I also need a new, wheat grill cloth and the little piece for the lower back.

It is hard to find additional superlatives to speak to the work of Paul Wliczynski. He is simply the best at what he does.

Yes, but they aren't currently producing any I don't think. Used ones are rare, but they're out there. Check Evilbay.

Rickenbacker Guitar Models / Re: Toaster pickups? Which model for me?

I'm a Rick bass guy, but I think I would go with the toasters. The old version is better. I think the bobbin material is different and they may be wound differently. As far as which model, I don't know. I think you will enjoy the Ric-o-sound (stereo) feature though.

OK, so we have Paul. I also very much dig Mr. Squier and Les Claypool, Mike Inez, Chris Ballew and the guy from JD Blackfoot's band, but I've spent the last two days trying to perfect "Revelations" off Iron Maiden's Piece of mind CD and Damn, Steve Harris is unfreakinbelievable. He's playing all these galloping, melodic bass lines, using his fingers. Most of you are probably not fans of 80s medal, but listen to this album, Steve Harris is a monster.

I was turned on to The Beatles in 1985, by a friend of mine who was the bass player in my band. I was playing rythmn guitar then. I was hooked instantly and have been ever since. This guy also turned me on to Yes, Bread and Queen. Also the Rush album Caress of steel. Come to think of it, I really should do something for him, it is Christmas time.

That's exactly what it was in my case Beatlefreak. Nice to see you around, by the way.

Well George did have his SG at that time and some say he played the bass on that track too. The only track where paul didn't play? But, some people hear the casino on both guitar tracks, so again, it is far from a definitive answer. Absolutely nobody I talked to hears any Rickenbachers on the track though.

With the exception of some Anthology outtakes of And your bird can sing, there are no Rickenbacher guitars on Revolver I am told. Most likely scenario is the one I posted above, Casino and SG.

Well, it's far from a definitive answer like I promised, as the only two people who would know the answer are dead, but evidence does not support any Rickenbachers during the Revolver sessions and the most likely answer is Lennon on Casino, George on his SG. Hope that helps. If I get any new revelations I will be sure to post them here.
