Hello and welcome MacBratt. I don't know the answer to your question off hand but, I know where to find it. I will post your definitive answer tomorrow.

Man those are great pictures Bjorn. Steve Howe is also my favorite guitar great, so I am looking forward to watching your new page develop. A side note, since I know some of the guys here are members of the RRF and the Ric commercial site, Chris Squire is now a member of both forums.

I'd bet money it's a ground problem. I don't know a lot about Ric guitars but, when my 4001 was doing the same thing it was the ground wire causing the hum.

I remember reading somewhere that Jimi had a 4001 too. I have been able to find no pictures of him on stage with any Ric though.

I have a pretty good biography of Hendrix that I will dig out to see if there is any information on this, but to offer my opinion on another question involving Jimi's lefthandedness, I specifically remember reading about him struggling with his first guitar until he flipped it over. He actually taught himself to play it upside down. Something he did with amazing accuracy many times during his life when only a right handed guitar was available. So Hendrix truly was left handed.

I've been waiting for the new Maximas to come out so I can try them on my 4001. I have Chromes on there now, and I like them, but I hear the TI jazz flats and LaBella flats sound better. Now I hear the new Maximas which will be out soon, are very much like the ones that used to come stock on Ric basses a looooong time ago, so I think I will give them a try as soon as I can get my hands on some.

My main guitar amp is a blackface Fender tube deluxe amp, but I would love a Marshall stack.

I have never played a Ric guitar but, I can tell you my favorite bass of all time is my 4001. It is a 74' Fireglo, which I restored a while back with the help of some of the guys on this very forum. My thanks to Dane, David and Joey. :)

What is your opinion on GarageBand? I love it and seriously wish I could afford pro-logic to go with it.

That's a beauty Bjorn. My old guitarist had an ES 335, I think that's the model, it was a thin semi-hollow, double cutaway. The idiot went to Tuscon to be a Buddhist and while he was there he sold it for $300. The jerk, I would have given him a fair price and came and got the damn thing myself. It was one of the best sounding, best playing guitars I ever seen. I have a 76' SG, but that don't even come close.

I play my 4001( and most of my other basses) with a Dunlop105Q, a BBE sonic stomp, occasionally a boss chorus ensemble. I play my regular guitars with the sonic stomp, chorus, and MXR distortion(the old yellow one) and a beat down old Morley wah, with rubber bands supplying the tension. I also have a TU2 in the chain.

I know you were David, it seems like you've been waiting forever too. Did you drool on the carpet?

Only a collecter would keep his bass in a condition that made it less playable. A player wants his bass to play better. Now go play you lucky dog. ;D

Luthiers & Repair Links / Truss rods
« on: May 08, 2007, 05:54:10 PM »
There was a guy posting on all the Ric forums, trying to get a replacement truss rod for his 4003. Apparantly, everyone is out of stock. He was considering taking someone's advice that he go to Home Depot and buy a threaded rod and make his own. While I have no doubt that a guy like Dane or Matt or Joey could do this easily, I didn't think this guy should try it, after all, he broke the truss rod in the first place. I suggested he contact Dale F. to have some new ones made (which he did, thankfully). I hate to see someone screw up their bass. Hopefully Dale will hook him up and all will be well.
