Fender Stratocaster American Vintage Reissue '57
« on: July 14, 2007, 08:19:23 PM »
I have just modified my Fender and replaced the standard vintage pickups with vintage noiseless ones.
The other pickups where humming and could sometimes be quite noisy.
Now it is silent.  :-X
I also changed the three way switch for a five way.

Now I have a guitar that is a mix of old and new with the best of both worlds.

I will try to record some test music using my new Vox Tonelab LE.
I love the Fender sound but I must admit that it's when I use my Rickenbacker 330 and the Vox something magic happens.  :o

Here is a sample when I am using my "old" Tonelab and Fender....

Here is a new sample with Fender Vintage Noisseless pu's.

Björn, I like the sample of your Strat.  I have two Strats, one right-handed Mexican Standard (my first electric) and a lefty American Series.  I've replaced the pups in both of them.  The right-handed MIM Strat has Fender's Custom Shop 54s while theAmSe has Lace's Holy Grails instead of the Fender's Vintage Noiseless.  The Holy Grails are staggered for the lefty guitar, are very quite, and have a nice vintage tone similar to the CS 54s.

That pickup appears to be a very good alternative. If I get any other Strat in the future I will surely try the Lace's Holy Grail.
I didn't see the price tag. How much are they?

Lace's Holy Grails at Musician's Friends are about $180 US.

Also, I have a friend that has started winding his own pickups.  He's promised to have a set for my Strat wound by the time he returns home this fall, as he's currently on tour in the Persian Gulf area courtesy of the U.S. Navy.
