Noisy PUs
« on: November 11, 2007, 06:19:31 PM »
I have a 1990 360/12. I'm noticing a persistent hum from the pickups that seems to stop (lessen actually) when I touch the strings or the input jack. Could this be a short circuit or a grounding problem? I hate to pull the PUs out just yet. Any ideas?

I'd bet money it's a ground problem. I don't know a lot about Ric guitars but, when my 4001 was doing the same thing it was the ground wire causing the hum.

This is definitely a grounding problem.  The first thing to check is the ground wire that makes contact with the bottom of the bridge mounting plate.  It come up through a small hole, and just lays against the plate,  If it's not making contact, or not soldered well at the other end, it will cause the hum you describe.

That's exactly what it was in my case Beatlefreak. Nice to see you around, by the way.
