Speakers: Alnico vs Ceramic
« on: January 12, 2008, 03:32:04 PM »
I've always been a fan of speakers equipped with alnico magnets vs ones with ceramic magnets. I find that as a general rule, that the alnico equipped speakers have a much warmer, vintage tone. Two of my three amps that were originally equipped with ceramic speakers are now have alnico speakers in them.

What's your preference?
There's one for you, nineteen for me.

I've personally always preferred alnico speakers for the warmth that you mention.  My first "good" amp was a Fender Super Reverb that I got in High School in 1964.  It had alnico speakers.  I currently have a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb that has alnico speakers.  Over the years I've had a few other amps that had alnico's.  I had a Music Man amp in the 70's that had a single 15" alnico.  I'm really sold on the warm, mellow sound they produce.
